Here is a short set of the GR Fireworks, brought to you by Amway. Yes, we were one of the many cities in danger of canceling this year because sponsors pulled out - but Dick stepped in to save the day, and we are grateful.
This was the first time I ever tried to shoot fireworks - it's easy, but it's not easy, all at the same time. You need a tripod and a remote shutter release for the best results. I dragged the tripod down there, but I had to work off the camera's 10 second self-timer, which was way too slow. Plus, it's good to get away from any ambient city light. Learn by doing! Next time I get a remote and back up, maybe all the way to the Leonard St. bridge.
That is the Amway Grand Plaza and the Marriott in the background, the Michigan St. bridge in front of me, the Grand River below on the left. The bridges downtown are closed to traffic and packed with thousands and thousands of people - which turns a 10 minute drive home into well over an hour and a half, as everyone tries to leave at the same time when it's over. Now you know why I haven't done this before. ;-)
