| If Michigan enacts a renewable portfolio standard for electricity generation, wind power will likely account for the lion's share of renewable energy. Sven Gustafson of the Oakland Business Review examines the pros and cons of wind power.
Gustafson makes this interesting observation:
Modeling conducted by the [Michigan Public Service Commmission] suggests "only a very modest cost increase" for expanded renewable energy as compared with constructing new coal-fired power plants. But the modeling didn't take into account possible taxes or fees associated with carbon emissions, which could give wind farms a clear cost advantage. |
