Bishop Determined To Bust Unions

by: Christine

Tue Jul 17, 2007 at 19:36:03 PM EDT

Mike Bishop stated in a radio interview that he was determined to support the "right to work" legislation introduced by Nancy Cassis.  Because the Michigan government is 2/3 Democratically controlled, Bishop doesn't believe that the government has the "intestinal fortitude" to support Cassis' bills.

"The best way to get that done is by way of voter initiative.  Just like we did with the SBT ... if anybody were to step up and do that again and put this on the ballot, I'm willing to believe the citizens of this state are willing to make a dramatic change."

And that's the end game right there.  "Right to work (like an illegal immigrant)" will bust the unions, and busting the unions is every Republican's dream.

It's not Mike Bishop for Governor.  It's Mike Bishop for President.

Umm .. am I the only person who's noticed that Michigan's economy was strong when our unions were strong?

Dramatic change? (4.00 / 1)
Yes, maybe we could win that race to the bottom!

Hat tip to Americablog, who posted this "red state" Perrspective awhile ago-

A December 2005 report Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts showed that Americans' working conditions in general closely follow the 2004 electoral map. The report's Work Environment Index (WEI) rated the quality of Americans' working lives by a weighting of three factors: job opportunities, job quality, and job fairness. The top five states were Delaware, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Vermont and Iowa, the bottom five were South Carolina, Utah, Arkansas Texas and Louisiana. Unsurprisingly, all five of the cellar-dwellers are so-called "Right-to-Work" states featuring outright hostility towards union organizing.

Blue states come out on top in areas such as health care, education, fairness to workers. Go read the whole thing, very informative.

Republicans won't be happy until they can pay everyone $1 an hour.

Cassis also wants to suspend the prevailing wage law, too. Why does Nancy Cassis hate Michigan workers?

Not on Michigan's watch, he won't! (0.00 / 0)
The unions killed off DeVos for even floating such an idea.

A voice in my head tells me not to be so mean to the conservatives.  I work very hard to ignore that voice.
