| Occasionally you'll see traditional media outlets bashing blogs, saying we're amatuers, etc. But if the traditional media felt like doing their jobs, we wouldn't need to be here. Case in point:
On The Chris Matthews Show, Chris talked to his usual panel of pundits about the numerous spam email concerning Barack Obama. There's a lot of idiocy out there, which I'll probably discuss in a future post, but here's some quotes from the panel. The panel's theme: Irresponsibility.
"A real challenge for the Obama campaign is to put out-it's hard for him now because he has to distance himself from Rev. Wright. But if he could've stood up next to his pastor that would've been easier."
"He's got a lot of educating to do."
"Is it a question of getting his bio out there with the people who are reachable?"
You'll notice in this whole conversation, that not once did a panel of news reporters say "WE need to be creating an informed electorate! It's OUR JOB to make sure that people know that truth about who candidates are and where they stand on the issues." They blame the candidate for not informing people.
Apparently the media has it backwards. It's the politicians who lie. It's up to the media to get the facts right. It's not the media's job to spread lies, and leave the politicians to sort them out.
