(You know what I really like about Dan? His ability to turn a challenge into an opportunity. This is the 2nd or 3rd diary I've read about how something has interfered with his plans, and he's adapted and pulled out a win. Exactly the kind of creativity we need in the House! - promoted by Christine)

About 5pm on Friday night a major power outage interrupted service to about 2300 residents in Manistee. Unfortunately that included The Ramsdell Theatre, where The Jettisons were scheduled to play their second of two benefit concerts for Dan Scripps for State Representative. After trying to contact the power comapany (to no avail) and talking to neighbors, the fast acting Manistee County campaign manager Rick Schrock and Dan came up with a plan....to take it outside.

The Jettisons played an acoustic trio set for about 2 hours, taking requests from the crowd. A good number of people stopped by to listen, watch the band, and talk to Dan, as downtown Manistee is a popular area for evening walks. This event was a unique way to engage voters.

Dan talked about how the power outage could have been a bad thing, but that together we were turning it into an opportunity to come together as a community and enjoy an evening as neighbors and that if we come together as neighbors in a situation like this, just imagine what we could do.

Dan rocks! (and so do The Jettisons!)Click the pictures for a link to a bunch more pics of the event. Thanks for the front page Christine! Dan has alot going on, these concerts, a speaking engagement at Rothbury Festival, etc. He's reaching out to a wide demographic of voters in our area to prove that he is the real choice in the State House race. We're volunteering and working hard to make sure he wins!

Ovations are great guitars to start with - thinner necks, and you can string them with lighter strings to build up those calluses...

I picked up an acoustic guitar when I was around twelve, and quit because the neck was just too big for my small hands. Too hard to hold down heavy strings. At seventeen I bought an electric and it was a lot easier to get going.
