| Well, already there is much noise going on in the MSM about Mike Bishop's censoring of our blog. The nationwide blogosphere is up in arms, resulting in a front-page diary on DailyKos by Michigan's own LiberalLucy.
Bishop went into damage control fast and sent out a response:
It is probably the first of several blocks to be instituted. The Senate blocks many websites from its users that it deems inappropriate. We believe Senate employees are to be doing the work of the people, not surfing the web and posting politically motivated propaganda. Recent national reports show that people spend 40-60 minutes a day surfing the web. We don't believe that to be an acceptable use of time. When certain sites are utilized by users in the system to promote political propaganda, we deem that an inappropriate use of taxpayer resources, not to mention unethical.
But Bishop's chief of staff, Matt Miner, gave the real reason why they're censoring our blog. From the subscription only MIRS:
Miner blocked the Web site yesterday. He said he hasn't blocked sites such as Michiganliberal.com or Michiganconservative.com , but there
may be some point where these type of blogs get blocked.
"The blog updated after session and it coincides with what the Senate's doing," he said. "Michiganliberal.com doesn't matter, they
don't say bad things about us."
Now Michigan Liberal would beg to differ on that (and I agree with them), but the point is clear: They're censoring us because they don't like what we're saying about them. |
