Joe Schwarz Endorses Mark Schauer

The anti-tax, anti-regulation Club For Growth spent $1.1 million to buy Tim Walberg in 2006, and they have moved to protect their investment by starting nasty attack ads on Mark Schauer as of today. Republican Joe Schwarz steps up and says "enough".

Former U.S. Rep. Joe Schwarz is endorsing Democratic challenger Mark Schauer in his former south-central Michigan congressional district, even though he's a Republican.

Schwarz told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he decided to endorse Schauer over Republican Rep. Tim Walberg because the anti-tax Club for Growth began running ads critical of Schauer.

The Club for Growth injected more than $1 million into the 2006 primary, helping Walberg defeat Schwarz, then a first-term congressman. The anti-tax group criticized Schwarz's record on taxes and painted him as too moderate for the district.

Too moderate. Bet the people of the 7th would be ready for "moderate" right about now - with Walberg they get "more of the same" anti-regulation policies that are causing our economic disturbance. Everyone having fun down there? Enjoying this crisis and uncertainty? Because Tim Walberg wants to continue the ride. (h/t to Cordelia for this)-

Walberg, however, said there are other alternatives including lowering taxes and lessening regulations to allow more capital to flow the markets. The capital gains rate and corporate tax rates especially should be lowered, he said.

Cut taxes for the rich and let them do what they want. Throw in approval of outsourcing jobs, and you have the perfect Bush Republican. That's Tim.

Schauer released his third ad today - take a look. The Senator speaks!

Too moderate? (4.00 / 1)
So they go with a republican?  Doesn't even make sense.

They eat Republicans too.

If you don't follow their extreme "eliminate government and taxes and privatize Social Security" agenda - they will come after you. Joe found that out the hard way.

Radical right wing. Drove the moderates right out of the Republican Party.

Why I love Hunter (4.00 / 2)
Who comes to the same conclusion I did, but says it so much better-

Conservatives have been looking hard for ways to blame the current economic mess on the public, or cruel taxes, or those shifty brown people. They've assured us that the market will just fix itself, if we do blah blah blah. And they've got a thirty year history of being so completely wrong about anything even vaguely associated with any of this stuff that you'd have to be a very special kind of moron to believe them about anything, at this point. What exactly about "let business make up it's own, less stringent accounting rules" was working, in the past? Where are the piles of cash that were supposed to be generated from tax cut after tax cut on the most wealthy? How has that all been working out, during this administration?

Serious voices have been talking about institutional fixes like a transaction tax, rules for short selling, etc., and shorter term fixes like mortgage relief, liquidity fixes and the like, but all the Republicans can fart out is "more tax cuts for business!" and "deregulate, so business can do what they like!" Of course. Let's all pretend that there's any rational logic involved in just throwing more tax cuts at the companies, in the hopes that their slightly-improved bottom lines will eventually "trickle down" enough to make up for the gawdawful mountain of debt about to be piled on us.

And yes, he is right about the Democrats too. Go read.

I just read that too. (4.00 / 1)
Excellent article.  The "trickle down" made me think of Yvette's diary, too.  The tax cuts and deregulations to businesses is part of what got us into this mess.  It can't be both the problem and the solution.  Unfortunately, talking to people that support this mad idea is like shouting at a brick wall.  You'd have more success convincing a 2 year old to dislike chocolate.

Yvette's Diary that I referenced, for those who don't know what I mean.

Apparently the tax cuts (4.00 / 1)
... to be applied to this specific rescue/bailout/whatever they are calling it today bill are the ones passed last week by the Senate - alternative energy, ATM and such. (which I thought was past of the spending bill already passed and on the way to Bush - nope)

That is not what Walberg was talking about or looking for, or Hunter either for that matter. This all goes to Pavlovian behavior on the part of both parties.

Here's a link that describes in detail some of the tax cuts being included.
